Olmec Releases CD "Ma Says"
Singer/songwriter Olmec has released his first cd, "Ma Says," a collection of ten original songs that reflect the writer's strong personal vision.
Olmec came to Portland, Oregon a few years ago, armed with his 12-string guitar and a pack of songs. He was ready to record an album, and he hoped Portland was the place where it could happen.
He checked around for some musicians to work with. He was used to performing alone; for the recording he wanted some backup to lightly enhance the sound he had developed with just his voice and guitar.
He found the right, light touch in producer Mike Coykendall (Amelia, M. Ward, Old Joe Clarks), who is also a musician in his own right.
Multi-instrumentalist Mark Orton (Tin Hat Trio, film composer for The Real Dirt on Farmer John) accompanied on most songs, playing guitar, high guitar, dobro, bass harmonica, log drum, pump organ (harmonium), piano, banjo, and drum. Fred Trujillo rounded out the overall sound on upright bass and electric bass.
Producer Mike Coykendall: "I worked with Olmec on this CD and have a deep appreciation for his purity of art and expression. The earth is now a better place. Or at least we can see its potential. I love it when someone and their art / music comes along who is unique in vision and uncompromised by the expectancies of the "market." Not to say that these efforts should go unrewarded..."
"Ma Says" is available online at CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com/olmec).
